September 2 & 3

What we did in class?
First, we reviewed the vocabulary on this Prezi

We discussed the history of the time period our story was written in (1894).

We then started reading Story of an Hour and marking examples of the vocabulary words in the story

Next time we will do this assignment.

We will have a quiz on these vocabulary words.

Then we will organize a paper.

The article of the week for next week will be this. Due TH or F depending on which day your student has class.

Today was picture day! Retakes are October 1st if you missed out.

Today we did this activity:
Today we are going to research these English terms.
(Figurative Language)
Suspense
Metaphor
Chronological
Oxymoron
Simile
Irony

Log-on to the computer. Get the computer that matches your desk number.

Use your school account.
It should look something like this: phippjil000@alpinesd.org
The password should be the same as last time you used it.

Open a google.doc and call it Vocabulary Words.

  1. Look up each vocabulary word.
  2. Write down the meaning of the word.
  3. Find an online example of the word (not one that uses the word, one that does what the word means.-- Describe a situation that uses suspense. Give me an example of a metaphor).
  4. Copy it into your google.doc
There will be a quiz on these words! Make sure you know what they mean!

What did we do today in class?
  • We had the 50 Book Challenge reading time
  • We read this article and reviewed how to annotate it.
  • We put the article and the annotation notes in the composition notebook. (If you are missing the notes, please come copy them during Flex).
Homework:
Always bring your book, composition book, and pen/paper to class.
Turn in your "Letter to Me."
